If you are subscribed to the Garden Waste Collection Scheme, your garden waste goes in your brown bin or compostable eco sacks. We collect these every other week.

Compostable garden waste you can put in your brown bin or sacks includes:

  • garden prunings
  • small shrubs
  • weeds and plants
  • cut flowers
  • leaves
  • grass cuttings
  • hedge trimmings
  • small branches (no more than 5cm / 2 inches in diameter)
  • wood ash (must be completely cool as hot ashes are a fire risk)

Don't put tree logs, soil or turf in brown bins or sacks - search the waste wizard at oxfordshire.gov.uk to check what to do with these and any other items not listed.

Alternatives and zero waste resources

If you're not a subscriber to the collection scheme or looking for other ways to reduce waste:

  • take garden waste to a Household Waste Recycling Centre
  • if a neighbour has a brown bin, they may be willing to share if they have space
  • consider composting your garden waste at home
  • for information about home composting and how to grow food at home see Replenish Oxfordshire
