Green caddies and shared red bins are for food waste only. We collect these every week.
Top tips:
- consider home composting things like fruit and vegetable peelings
- don't put garden waste or food packaging (even if it's compostable) in caddies or red bins
- you don't have to line your food caddy but if you do, use a compostable liner, newspaper or plastic bag (no black plastic) as these can be removed during the recycling process
- we suggest you keep your smaller caddy indoors and transfer food waste to your larger, outdoor caddy when needed - but you can put either size out for collection
Solid food waste
Solid food waste (raw, cooked and leftover plate scrapings) you can put in your caddy or shared red bin include:
- bread and pastries
- dairy products and dairy alternatives (such as cheese, yoghurt, cream)
- eggs and eggshells
- fruit and vegetables (including peelings and fruit stones)
- meat, fish and bones (and plant-based alternatives)
- pasta and rice
- used tea bags and coffee grounds (it's OK if these are still wet)
Cooking oils and fats
Here's how to prepare oils and fats for collection:
- collect liquid oils in a plastic bottle - secure with a lid and place inside the caddy or red bin
- let fats cool down and solidify, then scrape them into the caddy
