Ongoing projects
Local Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (LEVI)
The Local Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (LEVI) programme is a major initiative to significantly expand and improve public electric vehicle (EV) charging across Oxford and Oxfordshire. The programme forms part of a countywide initiative led by Oxfordshire County Council, working in partnership with the city and district councils, and is supported by £3.6 million of government funding to accelerate the transition to low‑emission transport.
Through LEVI, the county aims to triple the number of publicly available EV chargers by the end of 2028, delivering more than 1,500 new charging sockets across Oxfordshire. In Oxford itself, this will enable the rollout of over 300 new chargers, located both in council car parks and on‑street to support residents and visitors who do not have access to off‑street parking.
Beyond increasing charger numbers, the programme focuses on reliable, well‑maintained and easy‑to‑use charging, including contactless payment, to ensure infrastructure meets day‑to‑day needs. A key objective is to improve access to public charging in rural areas and communities with lower levels of private driveways, helping to reduce barriers to EV ownership and supporting a fair and inclusive transition to electric vehicles across the county.
Oxfordshire County Council’s EVI demand tracker
The Oxfordshire Electric Vehicle Charger and Car Club Demand Tracker is an interactive tool that informs decision-making, enables Oxfordshire County Council to install EV charging stations, and introduces car clubs in areas that will benefit residents most.
Residents can use the interactive map on the Oxfordshire County Council website to suggest locations for EV chargers and car clubs, helping to identify areas with the highest demand and inform future installations.
The project also includes creating EV charging hubs in public car parks, smaller community microhubs, and on-street chargers in residential areas. Additionally, the initiative aims to expand car clubs, particularly those with electric vehicles, offering an alternative to traditional car ownership.
Completed projects
- Energy Superhub Oxford integrates Europe’s most powerful EV charging hub with renewable energy storage to accelerate the city’s path to net zero.
- Go Ultra Low Oxford (GULO) offered charging points solutions for residents without driveways, including bollards and lamppost chargers.
- Taxi Go Ultra Low Oxford (T-GULO) aimed to provide rapid charging points for electric taxis, supporting the transition of Oxford’s Hackney and Private Hire vehicles to electric.
