Before returning your keys for your council home, ensure the following:
- clean and tidy the property, including wiping down worktops, sills, kitchen units, and tiled floors
- remove all your furniture, carpets, and belongings, including items from sheds and lofts (leave rented furniture or appliances from us)
- if you wish to leave good condition carpets for new tenants, discuss with our Void Property Team
- leave the garden in a tidy state
- avoid leaving rubbish in the house or garden
- repair or decorate items that are your responsibility
- inform your gas, water, electricity, and telephone providers to finalise your accounts, noting meter readings for your final bill
- notify our Council Tax team about your move - more information on our Moving House page
- update any benefit agencies about your relocation
- arrange post redirection through the Post Office
- return your parking permit, if applicable
- provide your new address to TV Licensing
