Apply to rent a council garage

We have council garages available to rent across Oxford. 

Anyone can apply to rent a garage. You do not need to be a council tenant, but we give priority to council tenants and disabled applicants.

Before you apply, search our garage locations to find a suitable location near you. 

Garage rental costs

The cost of a garage depends on its location and whether you are a council tenant. 

Council tenants do not pay VAT. The rent shown for other applicants includes VAT.

Reduced rent for disabled applicants

You may qualify for a reduced rent if:

• you are buying or leasing a car, or have bought a car through the Motability Scheme or privately
• you receive the higher rate of Disability Living Allowance with a mobility component

The reduced rate does not automatically apply to Blue Badge holders. 

You will need to provide evidence of your eligibility and copies of relevant vehicle documents.

Garage rules

You may only keep a private motor vehicle in a council garage. 

If you want to store other things in the garage, such as bicycles, household items or garden tools, you must apply to use the garage for personal storage first.

• request a transfer to another garage location

You will need:

• your name, address and contact details
• your date of birth
• the location of the garage you would like to rent

What happens after you apply

If a garage is available, we will contact you to explain the rental process and next steps.

If a garage is not available, we will add you to the waiting list for that location and contact you when a garage becomes available.

Garages are normally offered in the order applicants join the waiting list for a location.
