Moving home: Your checklist
When you're moving home, you have several responsibilities:
- provide written notice at least 28 days before moving
- organise and cover costs for moving your belongings and furniture
- inform utility suppliers (gas, electricity, water, phone) about your move
- update our Council Tax team about your move - more details on our Council Tax Change of Address page
- secure contents insurance for your new home
- notify our Electoral Registration team - see How to Register to Vote for guidance
- arrange mail redirection via the Post Office at least 7 days before moving
Oxford City Council's commitments to new tenants
Before you move in, Oxford City Council ensures:
- your Tenancy Management Officer will review the key points of your Tenancy Agreement with you
- clearance of previous tenant's rubbish and personal items
- that your home is safe and secure
- refurbishment of your home to the Decent Homes Standard
- information on your rent and any service charges
- delivery of any Council-rented furniture to your new home
