A ceremonial groundbreaking this week marked progress on the development of 12 affordable homes on land to the north west of Goose Green Close in Wolvercote.

The ceremony took place on Tuesday, July 14th, and was attended by senior Oxford councillors, including Councillor Linda Smith, Cabinet Member for Housing and Communities, and Councillor Nigel Chapman, Cabinet Member for Council Companies.

The scheme, being brought forward by Oxford City Council in partnership with OX Place, its wholly owned housing company, and The Hill Group, will provide much-needed homes for local people. The development will deliver a mix of high-quality homes designed to meet a range of housing needs, including 10 one, three and four-bedroom homes for social rent alongside a duo of two-bedroom homes for shared ownership and 12 homes for private sale.

The new homes will be built to modern environmental standards, with a focus on energy efficiency and low-carbon living, helping to reduce energy bills for residents while supporting the city’s climate ambitions.

The project forms part of Oxford City Council’s wider Affordable Housing Supply Programme to deliver around 1,600 affordable homes across Oxford between 2025 and 2029, with a significant proportion at social rent. This will help address housing needs in one of the UK’s least affordable cities.
