Councillors Mark Lygo and Ed Turner are joined by centre staff and users holding balloons and cutting a ribbon to mark the reopening of the gym

Residents in Rose Hill are set to benefit from a refurbished, modern and affordable gym at Rose Hill Community Centre, following a major upgrade to gym equipment.

Located inside the Rose Hill Community Centre, the upgraded gym has undergone a complete refurbishment which has seen the replacement of all existing equipment with state of the art Matrix Fitness machines.

The refurbishment work has also seen the installation of brand new gym equipment including a Climb Mill, a Pec Dec, an Air Bike, a Glute Machine, an Abs/Lower Back machine, and more.

The investment reflects Oxford City Council’s commitment to supporting healthier lifestyles while ensuring services remain affordable and accessible for local communities.

In addition to the new equipment, the gym space has been refurbished with new rubber flooring throughout.

The cost to upgrade the new equipment was £130,000, with old equipment collected and recycled through a buy-back scheme.

Councillor Mark Lygo, Cabinet Member for a Healthy, Fairer Oxford said: “Keeping active is vital for both physical and mental wellbeing, but we know that cost can be a barrier for many people. That’s why it’s so important we continue to invest in high-quality, low-cost facilities like Rose Hill Community Centre gym, giving residents access to affordable ways to stay healthy, close to home.”
