Oxford residents who are not yet registered to vote are reminded that the deadline to register for the 7 May elections is fast approaching.

Poll cards have been sent out advising electors where their polling station is – but they are not essential to vote. If you are registered and you don’t receive one, or you’ve lost it, you can still vote. You can also find out your polling station here.

The deadline to register to vote is 20 April.

Those already registered to vote at their current address do not need to re-register. But anyone who has moved home since they last registered, changed their name, or recently turned 18 must register before the deadline.

Comment

“These elections give residents the opportunity to express their views on who represents them locally. If you haven’t registered yet, be sure to do so before the midnight deadline on 20 April.

"No one should miss the chance to vote if they’re unable to attend a polling station in person. Options like postal and proxy voting offer a simple alternative for those who prefer or need to vote another way. The application process is straightforward, but it’s important not to leave it until the last minute.”

Voter ID

To vote at a polling station, people must show a photo ID. This includes a passport, a driving licence or some travel cards. The Electoral Commission website gives full details on acceptable forms of ID.

Voters without acceptable ID can apply for free ID online or by completing and submitting a paper form to the Council. The deadline for this election is 5pm on 28 April.

Can’t vote in person?

Any voters who can’t vote in person can apply to vote by post, or by appointing someone they trust to vote in their place (a proxy vote). The deadline to apply for a postal vote is 5pm on 21 April. The deadline to apply for a proxy vote is at 5pm on 28 April.
