Oxford City Council has now approved over £200,000 in funding to support local organisations working to prevent rough sleeping and help people experiencing homelessness across the city.

Councillor Linda Smith Maltfield House 1

Following the launch of a ‘Rough Sleeping and Homelessness Initiatives’ grant scheme in late autumn 2025, these new grant awards contribute towards the delivery and strengthening of provision across the city. This includes specialist women’s provision, accommodation for refugee and migrants, in-reach support,  street outreach and winter provision, health and wellbeing support, lived-experience forums, restorative practice training, and support for people preparing to move into independent tenancies.

The Council was able to establish and launch the ‘Rough Sleeping and Homelessness Initiative’ Grant Scheme in late autumn 2025 following receipt of additional funding received from government through the Rough Sleeping Prevention and Recovery Grant (RSPRG) to help tackle homelessness and rough sleeping. This wider funding reflects growing national recognition of the pressures councils face, including the cost-of-living crisis, rising homelessness, and increasingly complex health and support needs.

Following the grant application process, the council has selected local voluntary and community sector organisations to receive funding contributions towards their projects and initiatives. The supported organisations include:

  • Homeless Oxfordshire
  • St Mungo’s
  • Asylum Welcome
  • The Porch
  • The Gatehouse
  • Emmaus Oxford
  • Edge Housing
  • Oxfordshire Homeless Movement
  • The Mint House
  • and Connection Support

Comment

“I’m pleased to confirm the organisations that will receive funding to help us battle homelessness across the city. Our voluntary and community sector partners play a crucial role in preventing homelessness and supporting people away from rough sleeping, and this funding will help them continue delivering vital services for Oxford’s residents. We continue to experience significant demand pressure on our temporary accommodation services in Oxford, and these additional funds will help us address the housing and homelessness crisis in the city.”
