Tomorrow, (30 January), Rose Hill Community Centre celebrates a decade since opening and providing a home for community groups, events, and activities in Oxford.

Located in Rose Hill, Rose Hill Community Centre officially opened on Saturday 30 January 2016.

The £4.76m centre features meeting and conference facilities, social club, community library, gym, advice centre, youth suite, NHS Early Pregnancy Assessment Unit, changing rooms, and ballroom.

It is also home to a variety of community groups and resources, including Syrian Sisters and Rose Hill and Donnington Advice Centre, Rose Hill Junior Youth Club, and Rose Hill Social Club.

Rooms in the building are available to residents and groups to rent for community events, meetings, weddings, parties and more.

The Rose Hill Community Centre project began in 2012 after a residents’ survey showed overwhelming support for a new centre, with work starting on the new building began in 2014 at a breaking ground event.

The community centre is also environmentally friendly, with 190 solar panels on the roof, batteries to store excess electricity generated, low energy LED lights throughout and electric car charging points outside. The building is also home to an electric community van, which is available to rent.

Investing in local communities

Oxford City Council has invested in supporting local community centres across Oxford. This includes the £5.9m redevelopment of East Oxford Community Centre in 2025, the £1.5m redevelopment of Bullingdon Community centre in 2022, the £1m refurbishment of Barton Neighbourhood centre in 2019, and the ongoing redevelopment of Blackbird Leys Community Centre.

Comment

“Rose Hill Community Centre has been a hub for residents for over a decade, and has provided a home to many community groups and events over the years. We are proud to be supporting local communities, and to have invested in community centres across the city.”

Councillor Linda Smith, Cabinet Member for Housing and Communities
