ODS’ dog warden has struck gold once again!

Working in partnership with Oxford City Council, ODS has been awarded the RSPCA’s prestigious PawPrints Gold Award for the second-year running — recognising dedication to protecting and caring for the city’s stray and lost dogs.

The PawPrints Awards are the only scheme of their kind in England and Wales. They celebrate the amazing work of public-sector teams who go above and beyond to promote animal welfare and responsible pet ownership.

This latest Gold Award shines a light on the compassionate, hard-working ODS dog warden who does so much behind the scenes to help stray dogs find safety, care, and often, their way back home.

Two years ago the service earned a Bronze award, but this and last year the RSPCA has recognised ODS’ continued commitment and high standards with a well-deserved Gold.

The RSPCA’s PawPrints Awards recognise organisations that deliver world-class animal welfare services. To achieve Gold, the ODS dog warden service had to demonstrate excellence in everything from the care of sick or injured animals and behavioural training for staff, to enforcing microchipping laws, providing out-of-hours cover, and promoting responsible ownership.

Comments

“This Gold award is a fantastic recognition of the care, compassion and dedication shown by our dog warden and ODS. They do an incredible job, day in and day out — not just keeping animals safe, but supporting local people too. It’s something our whole community can be really proud of.”
Councillor Nigel Chapman, Cabinet Member for Citizen Focused Services and Council Companies

“We’re absolutely thrilled to receive Gold again. Every day I see how much these dogs mean to people, and it’s a privilege to be there to help when they’re lost or in need. We work really hard to make sure every animal gets the care and respect it deserves — so this award means a lot.”
Ady Higgs, ODS Dog Warden

“We are thrilled to recognise outstanding organisations for their pioneering work. It’s vital to recognise the fantastic efforts being made to improve the lives of animals wherever possible.

“Despite challenging circumstances, councils, housing providers, emergency planners and other public bodies are finding innovative ways to protect, promote and improve animal welfare in their communities. Their commitment not only delivers real benefits for animals and people but also serves as an inspiration to others.”
Lee Gingell, RSPCA Public Affairs Manager

Celebrating animal welfare heroes

Since 2008, the RSPCA’s PawPrints Awards have been shining a light on the people and organisations who go the extra mile for animal welfare, from rescuing strays to helping pet owners provide better care. Oxford’s Gold Award win is another example of how collaboration between ODS and the City Council makes a real difference for animals and the community alike.

The PawPrint Gold Award was given to ODS Dog Warden, Ady Higgs at a celebratory ceremony at the Met Hotel, Leeds, on 13 November.
