Oxford City Council wants local people to help shape a fairer, more inclusive city by taking part in a new survey focused on skills, employment, and opportunity.

Oxford is known for its world-class research and innovation, but not everyone shares its success. Many people face real barriers to accessing good jobs and training, from childcare and transport challenges to a lack of local opportunities. At the same time, businesses often struggle to find skilled staff locally.

The Skills & Inequality Resident Survey takes just a few minutes to complete and asks about:

  • the types of jobs and training people want to see in the city
  • the biggest barriers people face in accessing work or learning
  • the kinds of support that would make a difference

The survey is open to all residents aged 18–64, with a particular focus on people in Barton & Sandhills, Rose Hill & Iffley, Littlemore, and Blackbird Leys.

Responses will feed into the Council's new Skills Strategy, which will be developed in partnership with local schools, employers, and community organisations. The strategy will guide targeted action to help residents access secure, rewarding employment and build a stronger, more inclusive local economy.

Take part in the survey by 15 February 2026 on the council’s consultation platform

Comment

“Oxford is a city of innovation and growth, but we know that this isn't always felt by everyone who lives here. That’s why we want to hear directly from local people, whether you're just starting out on your career journey, looking for work, thinking about a career change, or hoping to build new skills.

“Your voice will help shape future support, training programmes, and job opportunities that work for you and your community. Your views will help to inform our work with partners across the city to make sure the right opportunities are available for local people.”

Councillor Susan Brown, Leader of Oxford City Council
