The Museum of Oxford (MOX) has been named a Tripadvisor 2025 Travellers' Choice Awards winner.

The Museum, which this year (2025) is celebrating its 50th anniversary, has been included in Tripadvisor’s top 10% of things to do worldwide as part of the Tripadvisor Travellers’ Choice Awards 2025.

The Museum of Oxford is the only museum all about Oxford and tells the story of Oxford and its people through an exciting range of social history objects alongside interactive displays across two galleries. From football to fairgrounds, marmalade to Morris Motors, patron saints to pubs, barges, bones, and all types of quirky customs.

Inside the Museum’s two galleries, visitors can find collection items, video, audio, and interactive displays, and special exhibitions that uncover what makes Oxford such a special place to live, work and study.

The Museum also hosts a lively programme of regular events, including gallery tours, talks, city walking tours, family activities, late-night openings, and more.

Celebrating 50 years of history

To celebrate its 50th anniversary, the museum is working with Oxford’s communities on an exhibition sharing 50 new stories about the heritage of the city. Through collaborative artworks, community-collected objects, oral histories, and community labels, the exhibition spotlights community groups, volunteers, change-markers, and artists across the city. The special exhibition is running until 3 January 2026.

The Museum of Oxford is open from Monday to Saturday from 10am-5pm.

Comment

“It's good news that the Museum of Oxford has been recognised by visitors and Tripadvisor, especially as it celebrates its 50th anniversary this year. If you haven't visited the museum yet, this is a great reason to go and learn more about the history of Oxford.”
