Worcester College
Worcester College is well-known for its warmth and friendliness, its commitment to academic excellence, and for being home to some of the city’s most beautiful gardens.
Established in 1714 on the site of Gloucester College – a much older institution founded by Benedictine monks in the 13th century, which is where the neighbouring Gloucester Green gets its name from – the college is rightly proud of its heritage, but thrives as a forward-looking place that is keen to embrace the future.
Kelly Haddrell, HR manager said: “At Worcester, our core values are excellence, inspiration, community, inclusivity and trustworthiness. We believe that communities thrive when every member can fulfil their potential. We respect each other and aim to build trusting relationships through transparency and good governance.”
Paying the Oxford Living Wage is one of the ways Worcester College respects staff at all levels, aligning with their commitments to equality, diversity, and inclusion.
Kelly continues: “We all know that Oxford is an expensive place to live and work, so paying people a fair wage is the right thing to do. It’s great that the Oxford Living Wage scheme encourages organisations to commit to paying an enhanced minimum wage, improving recruitment and retention of employees across the city.”
The College was concerned about the increased cost a Living Wage could bring, but has been able to prioritise it in the budget, and they’re seeing the benefits in recruitment and retention. They have noticed that by paying the Oxford Living Wage, it’s easier to recruit casual support, who are often university students and value the fairness and security.
