Selective licensing

Register of Selective Licences

Oxford City Council is required under the Housing Act 2004 to maintain a register of current selective licences, temporary exemptions from selective licensing and interim management orders. This must include certain information, as listed in The Licensing and Management of Houses in Multiple Occupation and Other Houses (Miscellaneous Provisions) (England) Regulations 2006.

The Regulations only permit publication of licences that are in force and so prohibit publication of pending or expired licences. Under Freedom of Information, pending or expired licences are classed as confidential information and so cannot be provided even if a Freedom of Information Request is made.

You can use our searchable version of the register below. The data is real-time data. However, licences are not published until they are issued and are removed once expired. As this scheme started on 1 September 2022, it may take up to a year to issue a licence and for the property to appear on the public register.

Please email propertylicensing@oxford.gov.uk if you believe a property requires a licence but is not on the register.

There is a separate register for licences HMOs.

Oxford City Council does not condone the use of direct marketing undertaken by third parties accessing this information. By doing so, third parties could find themselves in breach of data protection legislation by not gaining consent from the individuals concerned.

If you wish to have a copy of the full register, please contact us using the details below. You can receive the information electronically.

If you request the information electronically, Oxford City Council only provides this type of data as a PDF to comply with its responsibilities under the Data Protection Act 2018.
