There are many ways in which a family can become homeless, or find themselves at risk of losing their home. Always try to get advice as soon as you can. Do not leave it until it is too late. Please do not give-up your existing accommodation before seeking advice, unless it is completely unavoidable.

We try to prevent homelessness wherever possible so we offer advice and support about housing options to those who are homeless, those who may be at risk of losing their home, have urgent housing needs, or who simply want to know more about the options available to them.

When a family approaches us for advice and help, the main purpose of the advice is to prevent the family becoming homeless through a combination of advice, financial assistance and sometimes through sourcing accommodation.

Making a Homeless Application

If you are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless, we may owe you some duties to help prevent or relieve your homelessness.

Finding a home to rent

The quickest solution to most housing issues is to secure accommodation in the Private Rented sector. See Renting a home in the private sector for advice.

Affordability

If you need assistance with paying your rent either via Housing Benefit or Universal Credit, it is important to be aware of the Local Housing Allowance rates when looking for accommodation. The Local Housing Allowance is the amount of benefits you will receive towards your rent.

The rates for our area are available at Local Housing Allowance Rates
