Elections will take place on Thursday 7 May 2026 in all 24 wards of Oxford City Council.
Each ward has two councillors and one in each ward is being elected on 7 May.
The other councillor in each ward will be due for re-election in May 2028 (local government reorganisation permitting).
Deadlines for nominations and applications
The main deadlines for nominations and applications are:
- Notice of Election (starts the formal election timetable): Monday 30 March
- the period when completed nomination papers may be submitted: 30 March until 4pm on Thursday 9 April
- publication of the candidates' list: 4pm on Friday 10 April
- applications to register: midnight on Monday 20 April - register to vote at GOV.UK
- applications to vote by post: 5pm on Tuesday 21 April (see below for when the postal packs will be posted) - apply for a postal vote at GOV.UK
- applications to vote by proxy: 5pm on Tuesday 28 April - apply for a proxy vote at GOV.UK
- applications for a voter authority certificate (VAC) if you don't have an appropriate voter ID: 5pm on Tuesday 28 April - apply for a VAC at GOV.UK
Postal vote despatch dates
We intend to despatch postal vote packs, first class, as follows:
- applications made by Friday 13 March will be despatched on Monday 20 April
- applications made between Saturday 14 March and Tuesday 21 April will be despatched on Thursday 23 April
Your postal vote must be received by 10pm on Thursday 7 May.
If you are applying because you will be away you will need to consider whether you will be around to return the pack. If you have any doubt you could consider appointing a proxy.
