South Park is one of Oxford’s largest parks with a beautiful view
of the Oxford spires.

Major events for the city have taken place here, such as the Radiohead homecoming concert in 2001, the Olympic Torch Relay celebrations in 2012 and Common People Festival from 2016 - 2018. 

The park is within walking distance to the city centre and has excellent transport links to and from the city centre and Thornhill Park and Ride.

It is well visited all year round and popular with local students.

How to Get there

Active Travel: 20 minutes walk, 7 minutes cycle ride from the city centre.
Public transport: Nearby bus stops on Morrell Avenue and London Road; 400 P&R Service to and from Thornhill on St Clement’s.
Parking: No suitable parking onsite for event attendees; the nearest public car parks are St Clement’s and Union Street.

  • Access width for vehicles: 3.9m (Headington Road), 5.2m (Morrell Avenue), 4.55m (Cheney Lane)
  • The park contains historic ridge and furrow and Civil War earthworks. To protect the park, the number of large-sized events per year is restricted
  • Competitive tender issued every summer to determine next year’s events. For more information please email the Events Office
  • The park is located on a slope. Event organisers decide if they wish to use the bottom or top area of the park.
