Climate Scorecards 2025

Oxford City Council ranked third among district councils nationwide, scoring 63% in Climate Emergency UK's climate scorecards. This marks an improvement of eight positions from the previous year. In comparison, the average score for all councils this year was 38%, while the average for district councils was 29%.

The scorecards assessed all UK councils based on their actions towards achieving net zero emissions, consisting of 93 questions across seven different sections, which cover areas such as buildings and heating, biodiversity, waste reduction, food, and more.

ICE South East Awards 2025

The pedestrian-friendly transformation of Market Street won Best Infrastructure Project in the small (under £5m) category. 

The scheme was delivered in collaboration with Urban Movement, Civic Engineers, Meristem Design and ODS. It was completed last spring and will test the changes to the street under an Experimental Traffic Regulation Order, ahead of wider redevelopment plans for the Covered Market.

Local Government Chronicle (LGC) Awards 2025

Oxford City Council's Housing Needs Team was named Housing Team of the Year at the LGC Awards 2025.

The LGC (Local Government Chronicle) Awards are the premier event in the local government calendar, celebrating excellence and innovation across the UK. 

Oxford’s Housing Needs Team stood out in an incredibly competitive field, impressing judges with its multi-pronged and data-driven strategy to prevent homelessness, its commitment to the Housing First approach, and its strong partnerships with health and other services across the county.

Local Government Chronicle (LGC) Awards 2024 

Oxford City Council was shortlisted for the prestigious ‘Council of the Year’ award, highlighting its commitment to excellence in local governance. 

The Council's housing company, OX Place, was shortlisted in the ‘Housing’ category for its development of 38 affordable homes at The Curve on Between Towns Road. 

The Council's Electric Vehicle Dynamic Purchasing System (EV DPS) was shortlisted in the ‘Future Places’ category for its innovative approach to procuring EV charging infrastructure.

APSE Service Award 2024 

ODS, a company wholly owned by the Council, won the ‘Best Workforce Initiative’ award for its innovative mobile app designed to enhance communication and engagement among its workforce.

The Council won the ‘Initiative of the Year’ award after comprehensively transforming its Freedom of Information function.

Customer Service Excellence 

The Council retained the Customer Service Excellence Standard and achieved ‘Compliance Plus’ across 13 areas.

Global Achievers Summit

Councillor Lubna Arshad received the ‘Nelson Mandela Leadership Award’ in recognition of her exceptional contributions to community development, women's empowerment, and advocacy for social equality.

Councillor Mark Lygo received the ‘Mahatma Gandhi Gold Medal for Excellence in Peace’ for his community and voluntary work in Oxford.
