Ramallah, Palestine - twinned with Oxford since 2019
Ramallah, located 16 kilometres north of Jerusalem in the West Bank, Palestine, serves as a hub of commerce, culture, heritage, and international relations.
Ramallah is a bustling and cosmopolitan city with a wealth of culture and heritage. The Ramallah Municipality includes four United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) refugee camps.
Oxford and Ramallah share similarities in population size, educational institutions, healthcare facilities, civil society groups, and cultural and commercial activities. Both cities also boast historic markets.
The formal Twinning Agreement between Oxford and Ramallah was signed in 2019, celebrating a 17-year friendship fostered by the Oxford Ramallah Friendship Association. This partnership coordinates various activities and events, including youth exchanges, dance and theatre performances, educational visits, and links in trade union and environmental sectors.
