Purpose of the site visit
The site visit is an essential part of the Oxford Design Review process, allowing the Panel to understand the context, characteristics and key considerations of the site before the presentation. This helps the Panel in providing informed and constructive feedback.
Preparation ahead of the site visit
- Ensure the organisation of the site visit is completed a week in advance of the ODRP
- Ahead of the site visit, the ODRP Panel Manager will prepare a route map which captures the important site elements which need to be visited, within the allotted time. The Applicant and Oxford City Council officers will feed into this route planning
- Confirm any access arrangements before arrival if the site is not publicly accessible
- Confirm a clear meeting point for attendees, which is easily accessible and provides a good starting point for the site tour
- For certain sites, please identify any accessibility obstacles/issues ahead of the visit and advise in good time if PPE is required. When on site, be prepared to highlight any potential hazards or areas which are restricted
- Have a plan in place for adverse weather conditions
The site visit
- Attendees limited to Applicant Team (3), Oxford City Council officers (3) and The Panel. Additional attendees can attend the presentation (subject to room size)
- Site visits will generally last 30 minutes. The Panel Manager will ensure the site visit keeps to the allotted time and the planned route
- The Applicant Team and Oxford City Council Case Officer will lead the panel through key areas of the site, providing context and answering clarifications. This is the opportunity to highlight important features, constraints, and opportunities
- Oxford has a rich architectural fabric with many interesting / important buildings which are not open to the public. Ensure the tour keeps to the relevant areas which will enable an informed panel discussion. Avoid being distracted by buildings of interest which are not relevant to the scheme
