Oxford City Council is offering about 100 Oxford residents the chance to receive a new fully-fitted gas boiler for free*.
The offer is available to homeowners, and those privately renting, who are in receipt of qualifying benefits and currently have an inefficient gas boiler.
A full list of qualifying benefits can be found on the British Gas website.
The funding is limited and applications will be worked out on a case-by-case basis and at Oxford City Council's sole discretion.
If you do not receive funding from Oxford City Council, you may qualify for a new gas boiler for only £250** from British Gas, subject to qualification and survey. You don’t need to be a British Gas customer to apply for the offer.
Call British Gas on 0800 316 4320± and quote OX01 to find out if you are eligible.
When you contact British Gas, you will need to provide the make and model of your gas boiler (to determine whether it is inefficient), your most recent benefits award letter and, if you rent, your landlord’s permission.
Debbie Haynes, energy efficiency projects officer at Oxford City Council, said: “We are concerned about people not being able to afford their bills this winter, so we have set aside this funding to help.
“Getting a new and efficient boiler is a good way of keeping heating costs down and therefore your house warm.
“The scheme also has the benefit of reducing heat waste, which will benefit all of us by reducing carbon emissions.”

Only customers on certain benefits will qualify and the survey will review the efficiency of your current boiler, the boiler needs to be inefficient (C-rated or lower).
