New exercise classes at Rose Hill Community Centre

Published: Tuesday, 9th January 2018

Four new exercise classes will be added to Rose Hill Community Centre’s (RHCC) activities this week.

The classes will be:

  • High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) on Mondays, from 9.30am to 10.30am, led by instructor Hannah Langton
  • Boxercise on Wednesdays, from 6.30pm to 7.30pm, led by Ben Spencer
  • Aerotone on Thursdays, from 7.30pm to 8.30pm, led by Sally Pye
  • Pilates on Fridays, from 9.30am to 10.30am, led by Amy Thakurdas.

Initially funded by GO Active and room hire provided by RHCC, the classes will be open to anyone aged 16 and over, regardless of ability.

Classes cost £3.50 for existing RHCC gym members and £5 for everybody else, but for this week only they are free. There is a maximum capacity of 16 people for each class, so booking is strongly recommended by emailing or calling the community centre.

Many activities and the gym at the centre are heavily discounted for the community. In addition, there is no joining fee or contract to become a gym member and monthly usage starts at £15 (currently, with further discounts for seniors and juniors).

The flagship community centre also features a café, meeting and conference facilities, social club, community library, advice centre, youth suite, changing rooms, health facility and ballroom.

Councillor Dee Sinclair, Board Member for Culture and Communities, said: “I am delighted by the addition of new exercise classes to add to the variety of activities offered at RHCC and which complement our local gym. This will be a new opportunity for the community to meet up, socialise and maintain their health and wellbeing.”

Emma Collins, Sport and Physical Activity Officer, said: “We’re thrilled to be working with RHCC to launch four new weekly classes for 2018. The aim of the GO Active project is to create an environment where everyone in Oxford has access to affordable and enjoyable physical activity sessions.

“We’re confident these new classes will help to provide a brilliant opportunity to improve the health and wellbeing of the local community irrespective of past experience or current activity levels.”
