New mosaic celebrates the history of Wood Farm

A colourful community mosaic celebrating the rural roots of Wood Farm was unveiled on Atkyns Road yesterday.

Located adjacent to the Wood Farm Bakery, the montage showcases the rural history of the area depicting ancient oaks, circling kites and an inquisitive fox.

The mosaic was created by the Workers’ Education Association (WEA) in collaboration with a team of local residents thanks to a £2,485 grant from Oxford City Council.

The City Council’s communities team worked in partnership with the WEA to consult local people on the design and to recruit volunteers to create the mosaic.

Additional funding for the project was provided by Councillor Pat Kennedy and the creation included artistic direction from local mosaic artist Clare Goodall.

Cllr Pat Kennedy, Board Member for Young People, Schools and Skills at Oxford City Council, said: “I’m pleased to have been able to contribute in a small way to this fantastic project and I would like to thank all of the people involved. This has been a real community venture and the finished mosaic looks great.”

The mosaic is the third created in the last year following on from projects in Greater Leys and Littlemore.
