Refugee Week - 20 to 26 June 2016

Published: Thursday, 16th June 2016

Refugee Week is a UK-wide programme of arts, cultural and educational events and activities that celebrates the contribution that refugees and asylum seekers make to the UK.

It also promotes a better understanding of why people seek sanctuary. This year it runs from 20 to 26 June 2016.

There are a range of Refugee Week themed activities coming to the city. They include:

  • From Fortress Europe to Sanctuary Europe. A two-day conference organised by the Refugee Studies Centre at Oxford University, National City of Sanctuary, the British Red Cross and Oxford City of Sanctuary. 18 June and 19 June at Oxford Department of International Development.
  • A Syrian Love Story. Fundraiser screening of a documentary that charts an odyssey to political freedom in the West. 21 June, 6.30pm at the Ultimate Picture Palace.
  • Songs of Love, Separation and Exile. A night of live music from the Mediterranean. 25 June, 8pm, at University College Oxford.
