Ferry Leisure Centre investing £250,000 to upgrade gym with industry leading equipment

Published: Friday, 10th June 2016

The gym at Ferry Leisure Centre is set for a massive facelift with £250,000 being invested in equipment and decor.

Work starts on Friday 10 June and will be completed by 18 June.

Following the completion of the work, the centre will host an open day for members and their friends on Sunday 19 June between 8.30am and 8.30pm.

The following day, Monday 20 June, there will be an open day for non-members between 6am and 10pm.

Adam Knight, General Manager of Ferry Leisure Centre said “This is great news for our members and gym users in the area.”

“The industry leading upgrades include: new cardio-vascular equipment, new fixed resistance equipment, new functional zone featuring the exciting synergy unit, plus a new stretch area.”

We will try and keep disruption to a minimum but to complete the work we will have to close the gym from 10 to 18 June inclusive. The rest of the centre will be open as usual.

“Whilst the gym is closed for the refurbishment we recommend that our customers use the gyms at our other Oxford leisure facilities at Barton Leisure Centre or Leys Pools & Leisure Centre.”

The work is being funded and carried out by Fusion, which runs the leisure centre on behalf of Oxford City Council.

Councillor Linda Smith, Executive Board Member for Leisure, Parks and Sport, said: “This is fantastic news, and shows the value of our contract with Fusion.

“The City Council has made huge investments in leisure facilities across Oxford in recent years, including the £9m Leys Pools and Leisure Centre.

“It is great that Fusion is joining us on this investment, which follows our joint funding earlier this year of the new £900,000 Oxford Spires Sport & Fitness in Cowley.

“We are committed to continuing this improvement in Oxford’s sports facilities.”

Details of the gym open days can be found on our Leisure Centre pages or by emailing ferrysales@fusion-lifestyle.com.
