Five thousand Oxford United fans turned out to cheer on their heroes during an open-top bus parade through Oxford city centre earlier today.

The parade saw the players tour through the city from Broad Street, through George Street, Worcester Street, New Road, Queen Street and to St Aldate’s.

The U’s were then hosted at Oxford Town Hall, where the Lord Mayor of Oxford, Councillor Rae Humberstone, congratulated the team.

Oxford United were promoted from Sky Bet League Two on Saturday (7/5) after beating Wycombe Wanderers 3-0 at the Kassam Stadium.

Oxford City Council, supported by Ian Nolan Events and Oxfordshire County Council, organised the event in just 24 hours.

Councillor Bob Price, Leader of Oxford City Council, said: “We were delighted that we were able to pull this together in such a short period of time and that so many people turned out to cheer on the team.

“It just shows the level of support and joy there is for the club and their fantastic achievements this season.”
