Oxford City Council has granted a six month licence to community owned Flo’s The Place in the Park to take on the old bowling pavilion in Florence Park.
Flo’s is partnering with Premiere Tennis Oxford, which will run the refreshments kiosk while Flo’s manages the space in the pavilion which can be rented out for pop-up’s, meetings, parties and other events.
Flo’s are launching a community consultation to find out what local people want the space to be used for in the future. They are also open to expressions of interest from organisations or individuals who have a vision for the future use of the pavilion. These can be completed on Flo’s website or at the pavilion or Flo Café.
Florence Park was recently re-awarded its Green Flag, which recognises the best green spaces in the country. Facilities include children’s play area, tennis courts, green space as well as being the home of Flo’s.
Flo’s is a community owned and run project opened in September 2018, which provides a welcoming hub for families from all backgrounds to meet, work, play, learn and eat. They provide a free to use “community space”, café, nursery, room hire and Refill shop.
Councillor Marie Tidball, Cabinet member for Supporting Local Communities, said “Flo’s is a fantastic community-based business, and we’re delighted to offer them this short-term licence so they can explore ways to offer more for local people. We’re keen to see businesses make the most of empty commercial space for short residencies and pop-ups to keep the vibrancy and variety of the area for residents. I encourage anyone with an interest, as a park user or a business, to take part in Flo’s consultation so they can make sure their next proposals are relevant for people who use the park or who might want to start using it.”
