The Social Housing (Regulation) Act 2023 (on GOV.UK) was introduced to improve the lives of people living in social housing.
The new Consumer Standards set out what you can expect from your landlord, and what we, as Oxford City Council, must deliver.
The Four Consumer Standards
1. Safety and Quality Standard
We must provide homes that are safe, secure, and well maintained. This means making sure your home meets all safety requirements, is in good repair, and is of a decent quality to live in.
2. Transparency, Influence and Accountability Standard
We must be open and honest with you, treat you with fairness and respect, and make it easy for you to:
- Access housing services when you need them
- Raise concerns or complaints and get a fair response
- Influence decisions about your home and community
- Hold us to account for the services we deliver
3. Neighbourhood and Community Standard
We must work with local partners to help you live in a safe, clean, and well-maintained neighbourhood and make sure you feel secure in your home.
4. Tenancy Standard
We must ensure homes are allocated and let fairly, and that tenancies are well managed from start to finish, including when they come to an end.
What this means for you
These standards give you stronger rights and clearer ways to get your voice heard. They also mean we are more accountable for the services we provide and how we respond to your needs.
If something isn’t right, you have the right to tell us, and for us to act.
