Fishing

Oxford has some of the finest fisheries with a wide range of freshwater fish, including prized carp, barbel, roach and pike.  Angling is a sport that young and old can enjoy, getting you out alongside the water and amongst nature.

You must hold a valid rod licence, see the GOV.UK website.

You must also purchase a Canal and River Trust fishing permit if you wish to fish the Oxford Canal.

There are areas across the city where fishing is only permitted to members of a local club or if a day-ticket are purchased. See local signage.

The Oxford & District Angling Association is a good place to start.

Top Tackle is Oxford's leading tackle and bait shop located on the Abingdon Road, close to the River Thames.

The Angling Trust also provides lots of advice for people of all ages and abilities, and in particular with advice for those new to the sport, families, and support for the disabled to help get into fishing.
