Apply for a Street Trading Consent

When submitting an application for Street Trading Consent to us you will need to include:

• a completed and signed Street trading consent application form
• the full application fee as appropriate (see below)
• where the proposed street activity is from a fixed position, a copy of a map of at least 1:1250 scale - the map should clearly identify the proposed site position by marking the site boundary with a red line
• colour photographs of the stall, van, barrow, cart etc. that will be used for the street trading activity
• a certificate of Public Liability Insurance that covers the street trading activity for third party and public liability risks - the minimum insurance cover shall be £5,000,000
• a current Level 2 Award in Food Safety in Catering certificate for all food handlers
• a valid Waste Transfer Note
• proof of the applicants and any prospective employee's right to work in the UK - see our Street trading employee form
•  a gas safety certificate for the vehicle or stall if applicable

If you intend to sell hot food and drink between 11pm and 5am you will also require a Premises Licence for Late Night Refreshment.

We advise that you do not make any financial commitments before being granted a Street Trading Consent in Oxford. For example, do not purchase a street trading vehicle/stall before a street trading consent is issued as there is no guarantee that we can offer you a site from which to trade in Oxford.

Street trading at an event

If you are holding an event or attending an event as a trader in Oxford you will need Street Trading Consent if the event is open free of charge to the public. You will also need it for all stalls/vehicles at the event trading for commercial gain. You will not need consent for stalls/vehicles selling articles for charitable purposes.

City Centre and Late Traders:

• new application - £360
• annual consent - £8,300
• weekly rota - £185

Outside City Centre Traders: 

• new application - £360
• annual consent - £2,820

Peripatetic Traders (i.e. roaming ice cream vans)

• new application - £125
• annual consent - £1,465

Events

• up to 5 days - £35 per stall
• 6 or more days - £55 per stall
• charitable or ommunity wvents - no fee

Processing your application

Please be aware that it can take between 10 to 12 weeks for an application to be processed.

When we receive your application we will consult with the relevant agencies for a period of fourteen days to allow for comments to be received. In the absence of representations the application will be referred to the our Licensing and Registration Sub Committee for determination. When there are representations, we may refuse an application.

There is no right of appeal to a decision to refuse an application. However, we will contact you and discuss with you other options you may have.
