May Morning celebrations
Bank holiday Monday (1 May 2023) will see thousands gathering in Oxford to celebrate May Morning 2023. The event is a unique Oxford tradition that stretches back over 500 years. It will see crowds along High Street and Magdalen Bridge for the 6am choral welcome for the coming of spring
Attending May Morning
People begin usually begin to gather around Magdalen College Tower from around 5.30am. There will be a crowd management system to help people have a safe and enjoyable morning.
Stewards and signs will be in place to direct people to areas where they can stop and view the event. Please pay attention to any requests or instructions from the stewards, who are there to help you and others enjoy the experience.
Designated viewing areas for wheelchair users, families with young children and those with buggies will also be available – in the car park of Magdalen College School and in Rose Lane.

Road closures
Road closures will be in place from 02:00 to 09:00, for all traffic including bicycles.
High St (A420) - From The Plain to East of junction with King Edward St
Longwall St - From junction with High St to Holywell St junction
Rose Lane - Entire Road
Merton St - Junction with High St
Queen’s Lane - Junction with High St
