Charities and amateur community sports clubs can apply for relief of up to 80% if a property is used for charitable purposes. We have further discretion to ‘top up’ this Relief to 100% of the Rates due to give extra help.
We also offer relief of up to 100% for other non-profit making organisations so long as they can demonstrate the value they bring to the community. Each case is considered on its own merits, and we will ask for information to support this.
Where a property is partly occupied for a short time, we can, in certain cases, award discretionary relief in respect of the unoccupied part
How we decide on the amount of discretionary relief is set out in our policy
You can apply for discretionary relief using this application form
De Minimis State Aid
Discretionary Relief awards are required to comply with the EU law on State Aid. If you have received any other discretionary relief we need a declaration from you that it does not exceed €200,000 (the De Minimis level set out in the relevant EU Regulations).
Please complete the form below if you are receiving any other discretionary awards:
If you wish to refuse the Discretionary Relief granted for a property, please advise the Council of your decision in writing and the relief will be removed. You do not need to complete the declaration.
