Our people matter - accreditations

We recognise and value the diversity of our workforce and communities and want to ensure that all the attributes, talents and skills available throughout our community are recognised when employment opportunities arise.

We take every possible step to ensure our employees, and potential employees, are all treated fairly, given equal opportunity and support appropriate to their needs. All employment decisions including those on recruitment, selection, promotion, training and career development, are based solely on objective criteria.

We oppose all forms of discrimination under the Equality Act 2010. Our ambition is to have a workforce representative of the communities we deliver our services to.

For more information on our workplace equality programmes see our work on equality and diversity.

Investors in People Gold Champion Organisation

In 2014 we joined an elite group of organisations across the UK by achieving Investors in People Gold accreditation and becoming an IiP Champion. Only 7 per cent of IiP accredited organisations have attained the gold standard for their commitment in realising staff potential and understanding that it is good people who make great business.

Investors in People is the UK's leading accreditation for business improvement through people management and all our good work in communicating with our employees, driving improvement, delivering results and our focus on developing our staff is recognised by our Gold Champion status.

Additionally, in June 2015 we received the ultimate accolade at the IiP annual awards ceremony by winning the Gold employer (+250 staff) 2015 and the Overall IiP winner 2015. These prestigious awards truly reflect what a great work environment the Council offers to its employees.
