Anyone can apply for a postal vote - you don't need to give a reason.
You can vote by post if you live in the UK or if you're voting when abroad.
Apply for a postal vote
You can apply for a postal vote:
- for a single election on a specific date
- for a specific period
We must collect "personal identifiers" from all postal voters. These identifiers (signature, national insurance number and date-of-birth) are used to check postal votes cast at election time, in an attempt to prevent and detect electoral fraud and to protect your vote.
You can now apply online - you'll need to be able to upload a copy/photo of your wet ink signature.
Or you can download a postal vote application form to complete and return.
Once complete, please deliver the form to the Elections Office, Town Hall, St Aldate's, Oxford, OX1 1BX. Alternatively, you can scan/photo the completed form and email it to email@example.com.
Changing where your postal vote is sent
You'll need to change where your postal vote is sent if you:
- move house
- will be away from home in the run up to election day (e.g. on holiday)
Either way, just make a new postal vote application.
Completing and returning your postal vote pack at election time
When voting by post, you should:
- complete your ballot paper in secret
- complete the postal voting statement
- put the ballot and statement in the envelopes provided
- seal the envelope yourself
Post your ballot back as quickly as possible to make sure it's counted.
If you're too late to post your ballot paper back, you can hand it in to your local Electoral Registration Office or bring it to your local polling station by 10pm on polling day.
Replacement ballot papers
Contact us if you spoil or lose your ballot paper. You can get a replacement up to 5pm on election day.
You must collect it in person. If you spoiled your ballot paper, bring:
- the spoiled paper
- the rest of the ballot pack that was sent to you
