Oxford Marks ‘1 Day Without Us’, celebrating the contribution of immigrants to our city

The general public is invited to join the Lord Mayor of Oxford, Cllr Mohammed Altaf-Khan at Oxford Town Hall on Monday 20 February, 1pm, to mark ‘1 Day Without Us’.

Attendees can come in national costume, bring flags and offer messages of solidarity and support for immigrants in both Oxford and the UK.

Oxford-based photographer Fran Monks will be helping to celebrate with a pop-up photo booth at Oxford Town Hall between 12.45pm-1.45pm. She is hoping to gather a diverse collection of faces of immigrants to represent Oxford on this important day. The general public is invited to attend and pose for a portrait in support for the project.

The Lord Mayor, Cllr Altaf-Khan said: “Oxford is a City of Sanctuary and has long been a destination for international immigrants with over 28% of the city’s population born outside the UK. I am proud to celebrate this day and to express Oxford City Council’s on-going commitment to recognising the value of immigrants in the city.”
