The Cemeteries Service at Oxford City Council is responsible for general maintenance in the cemeteries. However, relatives are welcome to personally maintain their graves, such as planting flowers. It's important to note that not all graves, especially those in lawn sections, can be planted out. For specific guidelines, please contact the Cemeteries Service.

Guidance for planting on graves

Rabbits, which are common in the area, can damage a variety of plants, including young trees, shrubs, and herbaceous plants. For those wishing to plant flowers in our cemeteries, we recommend choosing rabbit resistant plants. You can find more information about these plants on the Royal Horticultural Society website.

Information on memorial safety

Our memorial inspections are conducted as a legal obligation under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974. For comprehensive details about these inspections, visit our Memorial Inspections page.
