Oxford City Council will welcome Dr Husam Zomlot, Head of the Palestinian Mission to the United Kingdom, to address full council at a meeting on Monday 18 March.
In light of Oxford’s twin city link with Ramallah and the escalating situation in the Middle East, a cross-party motion was passed at the Council meeting on 27 November 2023 asking that the Mayor of Ramallah, Issa Kassis, be invited to address Council through video message.
The Council contacted the Mayor of Ramallah’s office but, owing to the current situation in the city, he was understandably unable to respond to the request.
The Council has subsequently issued an invitation to Dr Zomlot which he has accepted, and he will address the Oxford City Council chamber on Monday evening.
