Panny Skrivanos, one half of the Covered Market’s Greek street food restaurant, The Souvlaki Brothers, is encouraging customers to come by and taste something new within the heart of historic Oxford.
The Souvlaki Brothers is an independent, family-run business founded on a love for the Greek street food Souvlaki. Souvlaki is a grilled street food product in an authentic Greek pitta with tzatziki, tomatoes, onions and chips.
The Souvlaki Brothers opened in Oxford Covered Market in unit 121 this year.
Panny said: “As young boys we would travel to Greece to see our family all the time, and Souvlaki was the first thing we were eating when we got off the plane and the last thing we were eating as we got on the plane to come back.
“But we couldn’t find authentic Souvlaki when we came back to the UK. The main reason for opening it was so that we could get them ourselves, selling them is a nice by-product of that.”
With footfall on the rise within the building, Panny wants to see more people making the most of the Covered Market’s unique surroundings.
He said: “Come and support your market because it’s a great place. Everybody here has really interesting businesses and working hard to do something different, so if you’re looking for a shopping experience that’s a bit different and diverse, this is the place to go.”

The Grade II-listed Oxford Covered Market, which first opened in 1774, features more than 50 traders selling food, gifts, shoes, fashion, flowers and jewellery, and provides a unique showcase for the very best in local crafts, food and drink.
