Treat your dad – or yourself – to a test drive in a new BMWi8 electric sports car this Father’s Day at Test Drive the Future.
The free event, organised by Oxford City Council as part of Oxford Green Week, will take place at Cherwell School between 11am and 4pm on Sunday 18 June.
Members of the public will have the opportunity to test drive a range of exciting new electric and hydrogen-fuelled cars from manufacturers including BMW, Renault, Nissan and Kia.
Visitors will also be able to try electric bikes, enjoy hands-on science activities for all ages from Science Oxford, learn all about low carbon technology and engineering, and listen to talks from electric cars experts and enthusiasts – including celebrity Robert Llewellyn (from Red Dwarf and Scrapheap Challenge).
This year members of the public are also invited to take part in a special electric vehicle procession through Oxford’s iconic streets.
The electric car procession will leave Redbridge Park and Ride at around 10am and make its way through Oxford to Cherwell School just before Test Drive the Future starts at 11am.
If you drive an electric vehicle and would like to take part please get in touch by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
Test Drive the Future, which is sponsored by BMW North Oxford, is one of the highlights of this year’s Oxford Green Week festival, which is a city-wide celebration taking place between 17 and 25 June.
The festival, now in its fourth year, will feature more than 100 events and uses culture, creativity and community to inspire local people to take action against climate change.
Jo Colwell, Oxford City Council’s Environmental Sustainability Manager, said: “Air pollution is a big concern in our city, and moving people from driving diesel and petrol cars to cleaner, greener, electric alternatives is going to be a big part of the solution for Oxford. We already have a large number of electric and hybrid cars and vans in our own fleet and they are really popular with our staff.
“Events like Test Drive the Future give people an opportunity to find out for themselves the benefits of going electric – and it’s also a really fun day out for all the family.”
Paul Fruen, Head of Business at BMW North Oxford, said: “We’re delighted North Oxford BMW is sponsoring Test Drive the Future again in 2017.
“BMW has extended its range of electric and hybrid models under the BMWi performance brand this year. This extended range means that electric vehicles can fit into everyone’s lifestyle and this is a great opportunity for people to learn how.
“We look forward to seeing everyone and welcoming you to our showroom to experience BMWi further”.
Test Drive the Future is a free event and no booking is required. Please visit oxfordgreenweek.org for details of this and all the other Oxford Green Week events.
