Curious about electric cars? Oxford City Council is offering the chance to test-drive an electric vehicle (EV) at an EV experience day for residents and businesses this weekend.

EVs are for EVeryone is a free event that aims to provide residents and businesses with an opportunity to find out more about affordable electric cars and vans in a relaxed and friendly way, with absolutely no commitment.

The event, which is organised by Oxford City Council, with support from Oxfordshire County Council, will be taking place from 10am-3.30pm at Redbridge Park and Ride, home to Europe’s most powerful EV charging hub.

It aims to raise awareness of how accessible EVs can be for everyone, regardless of budget and parking situation. All different types of cars and vans, including second hand vehicles, will be showcased, including MINI, BMWMG and Renault.

There will be a vast amount of expertise and advice on offer, with exhibitors including EV car shop, BMW North Oxford, Tesla, Go Green Autos, Drive electric, ODS, EZ Charge and CoWheels, Hiyacar, Share our Cars, Zimbl and Enterprise car clubs.

Visitors will be able to learn more about the wide range of ownership options that are available for electric vehicles, including the Oxford-born GUL-e (an under-pavement charging system for people who don’t have off street parking), car clubs, leasing, and second-hand cars and vans, as well as information about business finance options and EV charger grants.

There will also be an opportunity to learn more about electric vehicle charging plans across the region as well as what infrastructure is already in place. Visitors will have an opportunity to leave feedback on where they want to see an on-street charger within Oxford as part of phase two of Go Ultra Low Oxford and other deployment projects.

In addition we have a prize draw; our thanks to all our partners above plus our current EV charging partners, who have donated some super prizes, FastNed, RAW Charging, EV Live Blenheim, Ubitricity, visitors will have the opportunity to enter a free prize draw, with a chance to win prizes such as Oxford City FC family tickets, Oxford City FC shirts, £100s of free EV charging vouchers, a vouchers for free use of a EV car club car, family tickets to EV Live at Blenheim Palace, a free EV MOT and mini-service, plus other exclusive EV-related goodies.

“Lots of people in Oxford are thinking about using greener transport but can’t picture themselves behind the wheel of an electric vehicle. They may lack information or confidence about what making the switch could mean. How do I charge the car, how long does the battery last, is it going to be more expensive in the long run? How well do they accelerate?

“These are all very important questions and the EVs are for EVeryone event is designed to answer them. Come along and get tips and advice, plus you can even try driving one!”

Councillor Louise Upton, Cabinet Member for Health and Transport at Oxford City Council
