Oxford is blessed with some of the finest city parks and green spaces in the country but there are a few who spoilt them for others by being persistent litter louts.
Litter in the city’s parks is an ongoing problem and during the summer when footfall increases, litter increases too. Now the City Council and partner ODS is launching a new litter campaign in conjunction with Keep Britain Tidy’s tried and tested litter campaign, Love Where You Live. The campaign focuses on managing and maintaining clean public spaces to discourage further littering.
Love where you live
The Love Where You Live campaign uses litter stations and bins to combat littering. The City Council will now install two of the litter stations to provide the public with access to free litter pickers, bags and a place to dispose of waste. The litter picking stations are designed to encourage residents and visitors to take part in short two-minute litter picks. Participants can then promote this on social media using a selfie or hashtag and by scanning a QR code on the litter picking station itself to log their work.

Launch event
The campaign will be launched at an event at 10.30am on 1 August in Cutteslowe Park at which will promote the use of the litter picking stations. The Recycling Team will be hosting a stall providing education on recycling and waste management and giving out waste reduction goodies.
The campaign starts during the period that Keep Britain Tidy will also be running their annual Love Parks Week (29 July until 5 August). Love Parks Week sets out to achieve similar aims by giving people a chance to shout about their wonderful green spaces and celebrate the efforts of volunteers and workers up and down the country to maintain and protect our green spaces.
The campaign will initially work on a trial basis across two spaces, Cutteslowe Park and Wolvercote, after which it is planned to roll it out to other areas if the campaign is successful. There will be a second event at Wolvercote on 25 August aimed at working with residents and community groups to help them maintain encourage them to take a leading role in keeping their areas clean and tidy.
