Thanks to a generous anonymous donor, Oxfordshire Homeless Movement (OHM) can now match whatever the public gives to its Christmas appeal pound for pound, reaching more people in need.

This Christmas, donations to OHM’s appeal will help provide homes and support to more people who have been denied a home due to their legal status; continue OHM’s vital engagement with people who have lived through the issues; and support its charity partners in their work to make houses into homes.

This crucial match fund means that:

  • A £10 donation is worth £20 (£22.50 with Gift Aid)
  • A £75 donation is worth £150 (£168.75 with Gift Aid)
  • A £250 donation is worth £500 (£562.50 with Gift Aid).

The match is available on all donations OHM receives this Christmas, up to a total of £20,000. Donations go directly to local projects and partners, as OHM’s administrative costs are already covered by another private donation.

OHM’s Chair and former High Sheriff of Oxfordshire Jane Cranston, aged 70, spent seven nights last week sleeping outside seven Oxfordshire churches to raise awareness of homelessness, and the donation was received after she made several media appearances.

“We are really moved to receive this match funding, which we hope will help our appeal achieving even more momentum! I usually hate having lots of attention, but if it can be turned into money and support for those who need it most, I am absolutely thrilled. If the mystery person is out there, thank you so much from the bottom of my heart.”

Jane Cranston, Chair of Oxfordshire Homeless Movement

Funds from last year’s Christmas appeal, which raised £60k, have been used to set up two key initiatives filling gaps that others cannot:

  • A project for people experiencing homelessness who have lost or don’t have access to state-funded benefits and housing
  • An award-winning project that makes homeless provision in Oxfordshire more effective by consulting people with lived experience.

The public and local businesses can donate online or by sending a cheque made payable to Oxfordshire Community Foundation, with OHM written on the reverse, to Oxfordshire Homeless Movement, PO Box 941, Oxford OX1 9TQ.
