Oxford City Council Leader Councillor Susan Brown met with Debbie Dance, Director of Oxford Preservation Trust, at 46-48 Covered Market to admire the restoration work.
Oxford Preservation Trust and the City Council have been working in partnership, and with the support of the William Delafield Charitable Trust, to transform an empty 1970s butcher’s shop to its former glory.
Standing in the earliest surviving part of the market, designed by architect Thomas Wyatt the Younger when the ‘new market’ expanded in 1839, it was wonderful to see the original features reappear as the later additions were removed to reveal the stone flagged floor, stone columns and early iron trellis work.
