ODS has been chosen by national property developer, Bloor Homes, to install the innovative electric vehicle (EV) home charging system, Gul-e, at its latest residential development in Bristol.

Gul-e offers residents the choice to safely and securely charge their electric vehicles conveniently at home, without the need to rely on public charging options. It will be initially installed at the front of seven new properties at the Thornbury Fields development.

ODS created Gul-e to break down the barriers that people without driveways face in charging their EVs at home, without causing a trip hazard to the public or adding to street clutter. Currently an estimated 24.6% of UK households (6.6million) do not have access to off-street parking and are unable to charge electric vehicles at home. Gul-e helps to overcome this challenge, as well as the reluctance to switch to electric vehicles among people who are discouraged by the cost and inconvenience of public charging.

Inspired by the need to support the predicted rapid uptake of electric vehicles across the UK, this latest installation marks Gul-e’s move to provide its innovative charging solution to households across the country. It also signals Gul-e’s ambitions to support housing developers and local authorities nationally to trial the Gul-e solution in their areas.

Gul-e supports local authorities to reach local EV strategies, transport decarbonisation and Net-Zero policy targets, as well as reducing the need for council investment in infrastructure and maintenance. Successful Gul-e trials have taken place with Oxfordshire and Bedfordshire councils already.

Comment

"ODS is thrilled to be working with Bloor Homes on our first housing development installation of Gul-e. Our ultimate goal is to provide residents with a safe, secure and convenient solution to charging their electric vehicles at home; and our partnership with Bristol Bloor Homes is a significant step forwards. We're excited to bring our innovative solution to even more housing developers and local authorities in the future."

Simon Howick, Managing Director of ODS

“Gul-e is a fabulous innovation from ODS and I’m confident that this installation in Bristol will be the first of many such similar projects across the country. It’s a practical solution to charging EVs outside homes that don’t have a driveway and is set to encourage EV take up nationally.”
