The City Council has been made aware of a new scam attempt aimed at businesses claiming Covid grant funding.

The form, although littered with obvious errors, attempts to collect personal details from the applicant including name, date of birth, bank account number, sort code, bank card details and security code number.

Oxford City Council will never ask for bank card information or mother’s maiden name during the application or processing of any Covid related business grant. This is a clear attempt by scammers to harvest personal data including bank details.

The scam email contains a link to what appears to be a .GOV.UK grant application page, but the address bar clearly shows there is no affiliation to the official government website. Please be alert and do not provide these details. Oxford City Council will not attempt to collect this information from businesses seeking Covid grant funding.

If your business receives an email asking for this kind of form to be completed, please email the Council's Fraud Investigation Team or phone 01865 252333.

HM Government have set up a dedicated Covid Fraud Hotline in partnership with Crimestoppers. Reports can be made anonymously on 0800 587 5030 or via an online reporting form
