Oxford Ice Rink will be re-opening on Monday 26 October, the City Council and Fusion Lifestyle confirmed today.

The Ice Rink will be open for club bookings, lessons and public skating. The reopening adds to current leisure provision at Leys Pools and Ferry Leisure Centre, adding to the facilities available to residents.

Coronavirus safety

The Ice Rink will be operating in line with new government guidelines and those planning to visit will be required to book and pay online or via the Fusion Lifestyle app, minimising contact required at the centre and allowing for the track and trace process to be implemented and to manage the number of people on the ice.  This includes subscription members who must also pre-book.

Ice-rink users will need to select a session time and arrive on time for their booking.  To help manage centre safely early arrivals will not be able to enter the centre until their allotted time, and late arrivals will be refused entry.  Visitors are asked to bring their membership card with them, if they don’t already have one it will be issued on arrival and should be brought to all future visits.  Groups skating together will be limited to six people.

On entry to the building all skaters will be asked to wear a face covering at all times and use the hand sanitiser provided.  A one-way system will be in place both in the centre and on the ice, and visitors will be asked to follow social distancing guidelines.  Skaters will be asked to keep moving where possible and maintain social distancing when overtaking other skaters.

Lockers, changing rooms and water fountains will not be in use so skaters should arrive ready for the ice and bring their own water.

How to book

The booking facility will be live in the coming days.  Once live, bookings can be made up to seven days in advance by downloading the Fusion Lifestyle app or by the centre website to register and use the booking facility.

Fusion Lifestyle continues to work closely with Oxford City Council to deliver the viable, phased, reopening of further leisure facilities in Oxford.

“Oxford Ice Rink has been one of the city’s most popular leisure attractions since it opened in 1984, with Torvill and Dean’s success at the Winter Olympics that year inspiring many local people to take to the ice for the first time.

“The rink is home to figure skating and ice hockey and I know the re-opening has been eagerly awaited by those training in both sports as well as casual skaters of all ages. I’d like to thank everyone for their patience while we worked with Fusion Lifestyle on being able to re-open the rink in a safe and financially sustainable way.”

Councillor Linda Smith, Cabinet Member for Parks and Leisure

Anthony Cawley, Director of Operations at Fusion
