Oxford City Council will host the city’s Remembrance Sunday service on its social media platforms this year, after the in-person event was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Remembrance Sunday, which takes place on the second Sunday in November, is normally marked in Oxford with a parade and remembrance service at the War Memorial in St Giles’.
It is one of the largest and most cherished events in the city’s calendar, and hundreds of residents turn out and stand shoulder-to-shoulder with current and former service personnel to remember the fallen of past wars.
Sadly, this year’s event will not be able to take place due to the coronavirus pandemic and the Government’s guidelines on social gatherings.
Instead, the City Council will host a pre-recorded remembrance service on its social media platforms – including YouTube, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram – just before 11am on Sunday 8 November 2020.

The Remembrance Sunday service at St Giles’ War Memorial is normally organised by the Oxford Branch of the Royal British Legion, supported by the City Council.
