The five locality response hubs have been set up around the city to coordinate the distribution of food, medicines and other essential supplies to vulnerable households.

Residents that are vulnerable and need extra help as a result of the coronavirus outbreak can contact the city council contact centre on 01865 249 811, or residents can complete the online form to ask for help.

The Contact Centre is open 8am-5pm, with emergency cover out of hours, and is able to provide a call with an interpreter through our Word360 service.

Reaching Oxford’s communities

Oxford is one of the UK’s most diverse cities. 22% of Oxford residents are from a black or minority ethnic group and 14% are from a white but non-British background. 33% of Oxford’s residents were born outside the UK.

Oxford City Council will continue to share messages on social media in a wide range of languages, including messages in Portuguese, Bengali, and Albanian, highlighting the support available in Oxford through the coronavirus crisis.

The messages are part of the City Council’s on-going work to reach vulnerable residents across all communities in Oxford.

Some communities in Oxford are already working to support their members, and the City Council is working with them to make sure the right support is getting to those most in need. Mosques in Oxford are supporting over 90 families, and the City Council is keen to work with other community groups that are supporting vulnerable residents so that they can access the supplies and information they need.

“The coronavirus pandemic affects us all and it is important that everyone is aware of the support that is available. I would like to thank to Aizaz Cheema for recording this message for us to share with the Urdu speaking community here in Oxford. We will continue to share messages in a wide range of languages for residents in Oxford to ensure that nobody who is vulnerable is without access to support.”
